NESLL names League Championship for Guy Marquiss!
Every year, NESLL caps off our baseball season with playoffs for the league championship in the American, National and Major Division of baseball. This event is the highlight of our Little League season and showcases our best Little League players, coaches, and fans. Truly a neighborhood event, the day of baseball draws hundreds of fans to watch three back-to-back games to crown league champions in each of the three baseball Divisions.
The Championship is played at Viewridge Field, where the work of NESLL volunteers transforms a City park into a “field of dreams” for 6 baseball teams and their fans. Fans fill both bleachers, plus the outfield bleachers brought in especially for the games, and even then fans line the outfield walls. Moms, grandparents, teachers and schoolmates not as fortunate to have made it to Championship Saturday with their teams fill the stands to see who will win and who will lose.
Our field of dreams has been organized each year for the past many years by Guy Marquiss, longtime Board member, manager coach, sponsor and tireless advocate for Little League baseball in our community. In honor of Guy’s commitment, energy and tireless enthusiasm for Northeast Seattle Little League baseball, the NESLL Board of Directors has named “Championship Saturday” in his honor.
On June 14, 2008, NESLL hosted the first of many annual “Guy Marquiss Championship Saturdays” and awarded the inaugural “Marquiss Cup” to the Major Division Champion Varlamos Fighting Calzones. The 2009 Guy Marquiss Championship will be held on Saturday, June 13 at Viewridge Field.
