Minors and Majors program information:
Minors (9-10 year olds)
This is an introduction to competitive girls softball with introduction of the girls pitching in the windmill motion. Although this is still an instructional level, players observe most of the basic rules applicable to fast pitch softball played at more competitive levels.
- The season is broken up into two parts:
Regular Season - During the season, no scores or standing are recorded. These games should be used for instruction and skill development.
- Tournament - Every team will play at least one game in this single-elimination tournament that will culminate in the North Seattle Championship Game in mid-June.
NESLL Girls Softball does not run "tryouts" and a "draft" to select teams as occurs in boys baseball for this age group. We allow teams to form independently so girls can stay together with their friend as much as possible. If a girls signs up individually without a team, the league will assign those girls to teams to balance the skill level of each team.
We do require the girls to attend an assessment session prior to the season. The purpose of this assessment is to allow the coaches to balance the teams as evenly as possible. While we think it is important for girls to play with their friends, we also believe that the teams should be as competitive as possible so all the girls have a positive experience.
Majors (9-12 year olds)
This is a competitive league with predominantly 11-12 year olds but some younger girls with advanced skills. The players observe the basic rules applicable to fast pitch softball. Even though this is more competitive than the minors, there is still a large instructional component to the season.
- As in the Minors, the season is broken up into three parts:
Regular Season - During the first
- Pool Play - During the last
- Tournament - Every team will play at least one game in this single-elimination tournament that will culminate in the North Seattle Championship Game in mid-June.
For this age group, teams are selected in a different manner than the Minors. As with the boys, girls who have played in the majors will remain on the same team as they did the prior year (if that team is re-forming.) Any siblings will be assigned to the appropriate team with her sister. All other girls will be assigned in order to balance the teams. All efforts to honor special requests will be made.
As with minors, we do require the girls to attend an assessment session prior to the season. The purpose of this assessment is to allow the coaches to balance the teams as evenly as possible. While we think it is important for girls to play with their friends, we also believe that the teams should be as competitive as possible so all the girls have a positive experience.
